The Inspiration Behind Soak Scents
A Story You Can Smell
Scent has always been a part of the Soak DNA, starting with our first three fragrances: Flora, Aquae, and Citrus. Over time, we’ve evolved and grown our scent collection into something modern, clean, and uniquely Soak.
Fragrance Q&A with Soak founder, Jacqueline Sava
Each Soak scent is carefully created with love and attention to detail, and there’s a story behind every fragrance. To shine a light on the inspiration behind our scents, we asked Soak Wash founder and Director of Possibilities, Jacqueline Sava, a few questions.
Q: As the creator of scent, what does fragrance mean to you personally, and why do you think it’s so important?
Fragrances—good ones, at least—are both intimate and inspiring. A good scent locks a feeling, memory, or moment in place, frozen in time for better or worse. And that connection happens instantly: you’re either in, or you’re out.
At Soak, we want everyone to wear their favourite clothes and take care of them properly. Anything we can do to help people move from fear of laundry to joy in their favourite garments is incredibly important to us—and fragrances are a big part of that.
Q: Every Soak scent feels so intentional. Can you share the inspiration/story behind each scent and how you decide on the fragrance profiles?
Early on, we developed our fragrance profile, and it is the benchmark and guiding light for any and all scents we create.

Celebration
Celebration was a holiday fragrance in 2008. We learned 2 things that year. 1- Soak isn’t seasonal; if you love it, you gift it, if you don’t, you don’t. And, rich warm scents are memorable, and like Celebration, may just last as part of our collection forever.
Yuzu
Yuzu is a refined and sophisticated citrus that replaced one of our founding fragrances. It represents the second evolution in Soak scents. Yuzu marks the transition from simple to more complex fragrance profiles.
Pineapple Grove
This scent was brought into the collection for both the fragrance and the label colour. Our lineup needed some fresh, warm, bright sunshine vibes, which were bottled up in Pineapple Grove’s gorgeous yellow bottle.
Fig
Fig is one of our scents inspired by textile designers. Fig Tree Quilts, a long-established fabric collection/ designer, created the label art for this, alongside a full range of textile-inspired packaging profiles. The scent is spicy, a bit neutral and a now perennial favourite.
Wild Mint
Our newest fragrance, Wild Mint, is strong, confident and original. Moving away from traditional floral and citrus notes, this scent brings a unisex vibe that our collection needed. With it, we also did a deep dive into our label design. It’s the first in our updated branding.
Lacey
This scent evolved from a collaboration we did with a lingerie brand in the early days of Soak. It represents the softness of fresh linens, lace and line-dried laundry. It’s the gentle stepping stone from being entirely scentless, if someone is hesitant to explore fragrances.
Q: Soak fragrances often feel light and effortless. What inspired you to take this lighter approach to fragrance?
We test our fragrances in the bottle, while Soaking, once dry and at all the stages in between. There are so many fragrances in the world- in skin care, traditional perfumes, food, outdoors and life in general. Soak isn’t meant to compete with any of the other fragrances in one's life. Fragrance, for us, at its simplest, is an anchor connecting joy and laundry. It’s the connection between ‘can I wear this again without washing it’ and ‘I feel great in this freshly Soaked garment’. With that, fragrances need to be as light as possible to create that connection and nothing more.
Q: Finally, can you give us a little peek into what’s next? Are there any new scents in the works?
We are currently working on our next scent. And we always keep those in the vault till launch. For this scent, we are reviving an original founding fragrance with a modern update. We’ve gone back to our lab, elevating the scent for the future. We are excited to bring a core scent to our audience — our Soakworthy customers who may not have been around in the super early days when this fragrance was on shelf.
